Judy Gordy, PhD

Judy Xiaoshan GordyDr. Gordy is an adjunct professor in the Master of Health Sciences program in the School of Health Related Professions at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Dr. Gordy earned her PhD in Clinical Health Sciences at UMMC in 2017. She received her MA in Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics in 2006 and BA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in 2003 in China. She served as an English instructor in the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Hangzhou Dianzi University, Zhejiang, China, from 2006-09, before she settled in Jackson and was employed by Division of Information Systems, UMMC.

Dr. Gordy is a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi since 2013 and Alpha Eta Society since 2015. She is the author for multiple articles published in peer-reviewed scientific journals. She has given presentations at international and national scientific meetings and received a manuscript award from one of them.

Dr. Gordy's current research projects focus on education in active learning spaces, such as how the design of active learning space influences teaching/learning and contributes to the development of problem-solving and critical thinking skills. She has published three articles in the field and is working on more projects in the active learning setting with professors from various disciplines. Her other research interest is on the social determinants of health. She is a co-investigator on several grant applications pending approval.

Dr. Gordy also serves as a committee member in two women’s organizations - Group on Women in Medicine and Science, International Friends Club – responsible for email communications for both.

As a young scholar, Dr. Gordy is looking forward to more research opportunities and making greater contributions to the education and research missions of UMMC.
